Ephesians 3:20-21 "Now to Him who is able to do EXCEEDINGLY ABUNDANTLY ABOVE all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen."

5/17/11 - God's test with patience

Hi Everyone -
We wanted to give you an update on Jason after a whirlwind of a day yesterday!  Our Dr.'s office called us yesterday morning, after Jas was already at work, to let us know that the biopsy results were still coming back as inconclusive and that we needed to come in to see them that same day (yesterday).  So thanks to the help of my dear friend Brandie, Jas and I headed off to Baltimore again for an early afternoon appointment to discuss next steps.  Poor Jas was on the road for over 4 hours yesterday - what a trooper!

In meeting with the Dr., he shared that Jas was an unusual case, as typically they are successful in getting a decent biopsy the first time with the type of tumor that he thinks it is.  Unfortunately, all of the 15+ samples he took from Jason at his last appointment were mostly dead tissue.  Therefore, we will have to move forward with having a more extensive, open biopsy which is scheduled for next Tuesday morning.  During the surgery there will be a Pathologist present to ensure that they can get results from the sample they take before they close him up.  All in all, the surgery will entail a 1.5 to 2 inch cut and Jas will be put under for it, however he will be released to come home same day.  Therefore, all the typical rules with a surgery will apply prior to.  The Dr. shared that it's typically a 1 hour surgery and usually a 2 to 3 day recovery process.

Depending on the pathologist that is present, we may or may not learn right away whether or not the tumor is cancerous.  However our Dr. shared with us that the pathology group who looked at the last biopsy also seems to think that the tumor is a Myxoid Liposarcoma (cancer) even though they are not yet 100%, they need to be certain of type and grade before next steps.  Our goal is to know the results before next Wednesday (day after surgery), as we have an appointment scheduled back at Sinai with a radiologist to discuss the gameplan if it is in fact cancer.

On a positive note, while we were with our Dr. yesterday we had him take a look at Jason's CAT scan from last week.  Praise God there were no concerns in the chest, ab and pelvic areas that typically this type of cancer can spread to.  That was awesome news!  Go God!
If you could please join us in praying for the prayer requests below we would greatly appreciate it!
1. If it is God's will, that the tumor be benign. (Even though everyone seems to think that it's cancer, it would be awesome for them to be wrong!)
2. For Jason's surgery next week to go smoothly and have a quick recovery.  To be with the team that will be operating on Jason.
3. For our Dr. to be able to communicate to us the results of the biopsy quickly.
3. For God to prepare our hearts for the news we will be delivered.  While we know it's very likely that it will be cancer, it still tends to take your breath away when you hear the word.
3. For God to open our eyes to see who he wants us to be witnessing to through this process to further his kindgom, and to give us the boldness and wisdom to do so.
4. To be blanketed with God's peace & strength.  A huge praise goes out, as we have absolutely felt God's presence with us and we know only he can provide peace and strength during times like these!
We wanted to share how amazing God's timing has been with the message series we've been studying at church.  The series is called, "He Is With You" and last week the message was called, "When We Feel Scared to the Core."  Our Pastor opened his message last Sunday by saying IF OR WHEN you are faced with a health/medical issue that scares you to the core, there are 2 things Christ calls us to do:
1. Rush to Christ's presence
2. Rest in Christ's Promises

We are so encouraged to know that the LORD is our strength and shield; our hearts trust in him and we are helped (Psalm 28:7) and that the LORD gives strength to his people; the LORD blesses his people with peace (Psalm 29:11).

Holy Cow, we sure felt that God was speaking directly to us through our Pastor last week!  And... if you scroll down to the email sent on 5.9, Psalm 29:11 is how we signed off which was just a week before this message at church.  It's encouraging to see how personal God is in his communication with us : )

So, next Tuesday will be another BIG day for us!  Please know that depending on how we are handling/processing the news will determine how we get the word out and how quickly, as we may need some time to digest together as a couple first.

We love you all and thank you so much for your support and encouragement!
Jas & Meg
